About Us
Welcome to Svaha By Alo, your destination for sustainable handwoven handloom homegrown clothing. We are a mother-daughter duo based out of Kolkata, with a deep passion for handloom clothing that spans many years. It all started with our shared interest in the art of handwoven fabrics and sarees, which led us to visit numerous weavers to understand and appreciate their craftsmanship.
Inspired by the beauty and skill of these weavers, we wanted to do more than just admire their work. We wanted to empower and uplift their community, and bring their exquisite creations to a wider audience. In 2021, we took the first step towards this goal by partnering with a handloom weavers cluster in Bengal to manufacture our own handloom sarees exclusively for our boutique.
Our love for Indian Handloom is at the heart of Svaha By Alo. We firmly believe in the timeless elegance and ethical practices that come with traditional handloom textiles. Our mission is to make authentic Indian handlooms accessible to buyers around the world, while ensuring fair prices for both the weavers and our customers.
Since its inception in 2018, Svaha has primarily operated online and through exhibitions. We have yet to establish a brick-and-mortar store, as we wanted to focus on creating a seamless online shopping experience. Our journey began in 2022 with exhibitions held in Kolkata, followed by successful showcases in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Kolkata once again. We are now working hard to expand our presence to other cities across India, bringing the magic of Svaha By Alo to even more individuals who appreciate the art of handloom clothing.
When you choose Svaha By Alo, you not only support a sustainable and ethical clothing brand but also contribute to the preservation of India's rich handloom heritage. Each garment is meticulously handcrafted with love, embracing traditional techniques and showcasing the incredible skills of our talented weavers.
Thank you for joining us on this incredible journey of celebrating and promoting handloom artistry. We invite you to explore our collection, discover the stories behind each garment, and join us in empowering the weaving community. Together, let's weave a brighter future for sustainable fashion.
With warmth and gratitude,
